Symposium

2012_Symposium

Biomacromolecules

Head: Prof
Head: Prof. Dario Neri
Design, production, and evaluation of therapeutic proteins, with a focus on anti-cancer derivatives targeting tumor angiogenesis. Application of protein engineering methodologies to develop therapeutic enzymes.

Computer Assisted Drug Design

Head: Prof
Head: Prof. Gisbert Schneider
The computer-assisted drug design group develops and implements concepts, algorithms and software for rapid identification of bioactive molecules and pharmaceutical lead compounds. The molecular design cycle involves multiple scientific disciplines and requires rigorous trans-disciplinary thinking.

Drug Discovery Technologies

Head: Prof
Head: Prof. Cornelia Halin
We are investigating how leukocytes transmigrate through lymphatic endothelium. An important goal of our research is to identify and validate new (adhesion) molecules, which could serve as therapeutic targets to modulate immune responses.

Drug Formulation & Delivery

Head: Prof
Head: Prof. Jean-Christophe Leroux
Pharmaceutical and biomedical engineering of formulations and delivery systems for peptide and protein therapeutics, vaccines, and gene medicines.

Pharmaceutical Biology

  Pharmaceutical Analytics
Head: Dr
Head: Dr. Irmgard Werner
Sterilization of drugs and drug-systems by ionizing radiation. Stability and purity testing on new drugs and drug-formulations. Drafting of monographs for Pharmacopoeias. Development of new analytical strategies and methods.
  Pharmaceutical Biology
Head: Prof
Head: Prof. Karl-Heinz Altmann
Chemical synthesis and biological profiling of natural products and their synthetic and semi-synthetic analogs. Our research aims to understand the mechanisms of action of biologically active natural products and to elucidate the structural requirements for biological activity.

Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Head: Prof
Head: Prof. Jonathan Hall
Study of protein-ligand interactions by means of molecular modeling and QSAR technologies closely integrated with biophysical analytics and protein crystallography.

Pharmacogenomics

Head: Prof
Head: Prof. Michael Detmar
Identification and validation of molecular targets controlling angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis associated with cancer progression and with inflammation. Characterization of genetic polymorphisms that determine disease susceptibility, and development of individualized therapeutic strategies.

Pharmacology

Haed: Prof
Haed: Prof. Hanns Ulrich Zeilhofer
At present we focus on the contribution of inhibitory GABAergic and glycinergic neurotransmission to spinal pain control mechanisms. To address these topics we employ a multidisciplinary approach including electrophysiological recordings and functional imaging in spinal cord slices as well as the generation of genetically modified mice and their analysis in behavioral tests

Radiopharmaceutical Science

  Biopharmacy
Head: PD Dr
Head: PD Dr. Stefanie Krämer
Cell biological and physico-chemical aspects of the absorption, distribution and elimination of drugs. The focus is on drug interactions with biological and artificial membranes and transport mechanisms.
  Radiopharmaceutical Science
Head: Prof
Head: Prof. Pius Schubiger
Targeted radiotherapeutics, properties of molecular targets, radioimmunoconjugates, radionuclide labelling techniques; PET- tracerchemistry and - pharmacology , drug development, animal PET methodology

Therapeutics Technologies

Head: Prof
Head: Prof. Roger Schibli
