About us

The main focus of our radiopharmacy research is the development of radioactively labeled molecules which bind specifically to defined structures (e.g. receptors or antigens) in vivo. Such functional radiopharmaceuticals can serve both as diagnostic agents in nuclear medicine and as therapeutic agents for use against tumor metastases.

The Center for Radiopharmaceutical Sciences is supported by ETH Zurich, the Paul Scherrer Institute, Villigen and the University Hospital Zurich, and is working towards clinical application of radiopharmaceuticals based on an interdisciplinary approach involving radiopharmaceutical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacy and pharmacology.

The research focus at the Animal Imaging Center-PET located at the ETH-Hönggerberg (Science City Campus) is functional molecular imaging with both newly developed and established PET tracers using an integrated rodent PET/CT and a small animal PET camera. At the USZ, the main activity is GMP-production of newly developed PET tracers for clinical research, as well as GMP-production of clinically established PET ligands for routine application in nuclear medicine.

At the PSI with its powerful high energy cyclotron and respective infrastructure, the main focus is on targeted radionuclide therapy from fundamental research on potential new therapies through to preclinical evaluation.
